A dog and owl go into a bar... #ernestgram #dogsofinstagram

It is hot again. I am not amused and neither is owl.  My mom thinks that my approach to life parallels her current job search.  Our next few blog posts will discuss my zen habits and how it is helping her find a job. It is true, I am a zen master when I am not dragging or being dragged on a walk.

Charles Barkley, CEO of Casa Beagle International calls this meeting to order #beaglesinglasses

This weekend was all about getting down to business.

Charlie is the brains behind the operation. I am the brawn and look great on camera.

Unless, of course, I am resting.

Tonight, my water bowl was invaded by CATS.

Later I was tortured while eating pasta.

I get very little respect from the lesser apes.

Welcome to my reality and bunker for the foreseeable future...

Hexagon

THE HEXAGON.

You have to have pass six levels of security clearance to gain access, or be Annie.

Caged.

I have another secret fortress, near the stairs at Casa Beagle with an ocean view. Like my other fortress, you have to possess a high security clearance to enter, unless you are Annie.

Annabelle

She rules the roost.

No, this does not sound like me at all. I believe in the separation on naps and play, as much as I believe that people should be able to read in peace. Basically, NO WAY JOSE.

If I am upright and engaged, I expect you to do the same.

On a more serious note...

Who invited Annie to stay for the day?

Happy 4th!

Happy Fourth of July from Ernest Basset who is no longer a puppy in the eyes of the court, but is a puppy at heart.

I am currently still under house and kennel arrest.

This means a lot of things.

I am banished from all furniture climbing or sitting for the foreseeable future.

I miss my couch

So are my apes!

I am relegated to the floor and beds that are too small for me.

No longer tiny

Please send help or buy me a bigger bed. (Note: E has a million beds, he just chooses to look pathetic in this tiny one, Ed. )

I am going to see my neurologist tomorrow. I hope she says I am fit for travel. Charlie is taking my favorite sleeping spots at Casa Beagle and I need to reclaim them toute de suite.

it is not copper river?

This blog has not been updated for a few weeks. Why? Apes have been busy doing THINGS that purportedly take precedence over my communication outreach.  (Note to ape in career transition: my blog presence may be the reason you land an awesome job, love, E. )

Well, to tell you the truth, the last two weeks around here have centered around ME! Unfortunately, not in a very uplifting and positive way.  I have hurt my back, badly. I ruptured a disc and hurt a nerve, and was very uncomfortable and scared the moms very much.  I am lucky because I could still walk, sit, pee and stand on my own.  I have had x-rays and a MRI and now my own neurologist. She loves me and was very impressed by my demeanor and general handsomeness. However, she is strict and told the moms that I had to be on kennel rest, with a few short walks a day, no running, no t-boning at the park and no jumping on anything. If I am careful and calm, I will be better without any surgery.

I am not allowed to do stairs for a while. Tmom figured out a route that would let me visit Casa Beagle without any stairs! We dined al fresco! I stayed in my kennel while  being tormented by Annie. Its not perfect, but it is better than staring at my the walls of my x-pen all day.

I know why the caged Basset howls

The neurologist stated there would be no percussive motion for a long time.  Does this mean no drum playing? How about the cymbals?

Fine.

Feeling poorly

I will continue looking sad and dismissive until I get drumming lessons.

Ernest who knows why the caged basset howls.

Ball v2.0

I won this round of basset v. ball.

Happy Friday.

Ernest who is on his way to Casa Beagle with his pal Charlie.

My scribe is slacking again. I will give her credit for trying, she just needs to try HARDER.

How are you? I am well. It has not rained for over 12 hours. I am drying out, Now that the temperature has soared over 60 degrees, I am going to complain that it is too HOT.

 Summer rotation

This weekend I went to Casa Beagle on Orcas (not the whales) Island.   In the summer, we are ruled by the ferry schedule and the silly tourists. It's not so bad for me. I like the napping opportunities in the car. I would love them better if we were only going 23 miles an hour the whole way up to the ferry. For the moms, it is more traumatic - rush to get ready, curse traffic, drive like crazy, wait in lines, tap feet, take dog for walk, take dog for another walk, tap feet, drive, wait, etc.

Charlie usually travels with me. He's okay. I am caged like an animal and he is free.  What gives?

Besties

It's better than being stuck in a car with Annie.

Annie wants my pizza

Soon, I will get to hang out up top instead of staying down below on the car deck. Hello, beer!

Finally

ernest dog, at your service
and I'll take whatever is on tap

Annie

This blog is being taken over by me, Annie the beagle. I deserve more screen time than Ernest as I am much cuter and smaller.  I am a delicate flower compared the Mr. Thunderpaws and his side kick, Charlie.

photo.JPG

When I go for walks I stop by and visit Ernest.  I often like to see what Ernest has left in his bowl.  Usually he leaves something. Does he not know there are starving beagles in Nepal?

Dumb boy.

I also like to hang out with Ernest's nmom. She is the nicest.  We talk about food and things that are pink. I like to take naps on the couch, but Ernest needs to keep his distance. Look at this wall they built to keep us apart.

Iron cushions

Don't tell anyone this, but I sort of like Ernest.

Annie, I don't care what you call me as long as you don't call me late for dinner.

It was raining when this picture was taken. I was not amused.

It was sunny and too hot when this picture was taken. I was not amused. I recognize it
must be hard to tell if I am happy or sad, my expression while being full of sentiment, is still so hard
to read.

Yet, for the most part I remain amused, just not with extreme weather.

Ernest puppy, looking for partly sunny and 60F. All the time.

I think you really missed me.

I know I missed you.

Today, Auntie Claire (mom of wally corgador), posted a link to a site that shows you just how much I can say in just one look.

33 Animals Who Are Extremely Disappointed In You

Clearly they didn't contact me or Charlie, who both think it is time for a WALK.

Ernest puppy, phone your agent.

My mom has been asleep on the job. I am trying really hard to wake her up!

clearly you all miss me

I remain handsome even at the ripe age of SIX.

Stay tuned for my life, it is more interesting than my mom's life.

DSC_0652

I was stung by a wasp yesterday on my postprandial/pre-nakedization perambulation. That is the one where I wait until the moms have swallowed their last piece of pasta and place their napkins on the table. Then I start to whine and kvetch for my last walk of the night.

Nmom usually takes me because she can check on the world via the internets and keep up with my publicity while minding me while I walk.

Last night, I went to Armand's and then I turned around and started hopping. Nmom was worried, then I sat down and wouldn't get up. Did you know I am heavy? Nmom called Aunt D and Aunt A to go get Tmom. The nice neighbors waited with me while Nmom ran home to get the car to get me home.

By the time they got back - Aunt D. was checking me out. She's a surgeon so she knows what a bone is and has a proper bedside manner. The moms loaded me in the car and took me home.

Mama S. said that I would be okay and not to take me to the vet. My moms are such drama queens, but I appreciate that.

This is the email message Tmom sent out.

Dear All -

I am currently napping on the futon. Tmom suggests that, if I
feel well enough to climb up onto the couch and futon repeatedly, I must
be feeling better. With Mama Stephanie's reassurances, I was not taken
to the V-E-T. I took my Benadryl like a brave basset. I did not go for
having baking soda on my paw.

Do you think that Tmom will buy me a PlayStation with the money
she didn't spend at the vet? My paw does seem to get much worse
whenever I am close to the dog biscuit jar. How does that work? And
what is a "drama queen"?

Thank you to D for being the best human surgeon a basset could
ever have and Mama S. for always being the calming voice for my people
when they overreact.

Love,
Ernest esq.

P.S. Charly and Phrace and Spice: If you hurt your paw, or at least
your people think you hurt your paw, they do not get angry when you
leave baking soda pawprints all through the house. How cool is that?

Today I played the invalid, but I still managed three walks. I'm just avoiding Armand's lawn.

It rained today. It is going to rain tomorrow.
do not disturb, love ernest
Uncle Dale took me to the dog park and I went crazy. So crazy that I had to be nakedized when I got home.

Tomorrow, my Aunt Dianne is going to take me away for a bit so nmom can work on her alleged paper.

The rain water is good for my fur, but bad for my bone chewing opportunities.

ernest basset, rainwater soft.
