Really the best we could do.

smoochies,

Ernest goes blueberry picking, July 2006.
Given my fondness for sheep and goats and other dogs, I have decided that we need a new sheep/dog hybrid.

I am now asking the moms about getting me my own Bedlington Terrier.

You think that will fly?

I got to see pictures of my new brothers and sister. They are very tiny and cute. I hope they get good homes and love like I did.

Moms are getting verklempt over the whole thing - tiny puppies and what not. I think it may be time to up their omega-3s that they keep on hiding in my food.

Yesterday I worked on bending the will of my people to do what I wish. There are lots of whoo whoo gurus who make lots of money doing this and end up on shows like Breakfast TV and Oprah. I merely think with all my might, creasing my brow and wrinkle my nose and usually it works.

They sometimes think I'm asleep, but this works even while I look like I'm asleep.

Case in point, Saturday afternoon after we did all their boring people errands - brow waxes, flower purchases, bakery purchases (nothing for moi), farmer's market and the regular store they took me home.

I thought they would call it day and let me relax.

They had different plans, a plan that involved a drive, a groomer and a dremel.

I hate having my weekends ruined by that.

So, I grudgingly went into the car, waited while n.mom ran some errands, went to the library and then came home.

She totally forgot to take me to the groomers.

It worked!

Other than that, busy basset weekend - Arboretum Benefit, gardening, bone eating, running around pulling out plant tags, hiding my bum and taking a few naps. My people assure me that other than one evening event this week, they are going to be my side, bending to my will.

From http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=46730&in_page_id=34

As a young lad, I loved sheep more than almost everything (other than my sister). I liked living in Seattle except I missed my sheep. My sister still lives with some sheep and S.mom often emails us and tell us what is happening with the sheep at Rancho Oxboro.

If I had my way, we would have a sheep so that I had someone to play with. However, this is ridiculous.

Sheep masquerading as a poodle? Impossible!

My head hurts just thinking about it.

Does my nose look bigger?

My mom is bored, tired and cranky. She did this tonight in Corel Paint Shop Pro. She got the great idea to sepiaize me from her pal JetSquirrel from Flickr.

Check out her cute bassets and beagle (honorary basset) here.

General Jackson's shorter and younger girlfriend also is on flickr. You can check her out too! Hi Roxy!

Its time for my bed time nap (pre-nap before bed). I am tired. I had to pay attention at work all day and I am now a big brother, so that itself is a tiring thought.

Survival of the fastest, Ernest and Scruffy.

Not much to report here.

I'm enjoying my duck and potato dinners. Mostly, plain, but still I'll hold out for an amendment.

Tonight I had salmon, rice with herbs and kibble. It was very good.

They claim that soon I'll have to start eating veggies again, I say, no way. That was then (I was a tiny puppy). I am much bigger and wiser now.

Smooches.

Check out my uncle Frank on the right ! He's famous.

I wonder if they have thought of testing out this toothbrush on recalcitrant basset hounds.

Way to go Uncle Frank and Aunt B for all your hard work.

I am free! I am the Seattle One!

I am exhausted. I had a busy basset weekend.

Moms went to the Farmer's Market and bought me my own beef soup bones and let me take one out to the back garden.

It was delicious and then they made sure I would let them have it without any growling. I let them have it, I must have passed some test.

Cousin Scruffy came over for the night. We played a lot. I love him and we play kissy face all the time. He's an Idaho potato terrier who lives at Mt. Rainier and knows lots of about National Park Planning. He's going to be my Secretary of Interior when I am elected president, but he may be running as my vice presidential candidate if he's up for public scrutiny.

He's so handsome.

N.mom and Aunt Pat talked a lot this weekend about life, which is good because Scruffy and I get to walk together while they talk. N.mom taught Aunt Pat about the crunching of snails, Aunt Pat finally got into the groove. She sees more banana slugs and elk than snails, but that is what you get for living where you don't have a starbucks every half block and no cell phone reception.

Hmm, maybe that will change.

Anyways, I am tired now, so I'm going to spend the rest of the evening snoring.

smooches,

ernest the bold

The seattle one returns!

I am tired, too much playing.

Mom will post picture later.

Oh, my food has been recalled.

Moms are worried. I got a nice dinner of brown rice, turkey breast meat and cottage cheese out of it.

I'm in lockdown again.

Trust me, the moms wish they could send me to my sister, but since mom is about to pop the pups, the two of us may be too much work.

So, to the Academy I go.

Actually, I like it there. Dogs, love, chase, show jumping and a bath! N.mom promises to pick me up on Friday.

She better because cousin Scruffy, aunt Pat and Uncle R. are all going to be here this weekend!

Wee!

I have had a very busy basset weekend.

On Saturday, I went to the first of what I believe to be many boring plant sales with my people. I can't understand why anyone would plant anything that does not yield blueberries, blackberries or raspberries or trees.

Trees are good for peeing on the soft fruits are good for eating.

Everything else, meh.

Since it was a benefit for the Arboretum Foundation, I was most welcome. I am their favourite basset as I have been going to their events since I was a tiny lad.

Next week they say it has something to do with Alliances of Perennials, but they promised me a long walk. Cool.

I then jumped up on my Aunt Ruth's mom, which was considered inappropriate behavior and was banished to my kennel.

Then n.mom left to walk a long 13.1 miles. I was pretty good.

The next day we went to see her, that was fun! I rode the ferry, we watched them finish and got lots of scritches.

smooches.

Tiny dog, February 2007.

Last night n.mom suggested that we move my large couch to the front window for the summer allowing tiny bassets the ability to look out the window during the summer months when he is stuck at home during the day.

This would requiring moving the rocking chairs and chairs not suitable for basset vigils to the long windows that get covered up during the summer days (southern exposure and what not).

Cheap and easy (not really) to try.

T.mom is not as interested as it may affect napping karma on summer afternoons.

I say bring get that furniture dolly and lets get cracking.

Ernest's dream chair. The dreamcatcher from Stickley. Only 2200 bucks, not with the 30% off right now at Masin's fine furniture.

N.mom is reluctant to let me have it. She is cursing tax time and thinking that maybe we'll just stick to free stuff on Craigslist.

Sigh.

It is bassety perfect, n'est ce pas?

The rockers are nice, but they rock.Which is hard on my ability to relax.

E. the consumer of such things.

Ernest as a young man, April 2007.

I'm not as cute as I was as a tiny puppy, but still cute.

Was I not a beautiful baby?

My mom is expecting soon.

I will no longer be the youngest, I am going to be a big brother, a half brother, but still, cool!

Please note vulture like quality of Snoopy. I do just as well.

Getting my calcium, Ernest the puppy, April 2007.

I need to update you all on my days., they are pretty boring, but they are mine.

Note to G.Jackson ---I am not going grey, I do have white in my muzzle, but I was born with it. I remain a handsome dog.

N.mom is concerned that the tops of my ears are going brown. I think it is fine, she wants to keep me out of the sun.

Please advise.

Okay.

My day is pretty boring. I get up, stretch and go out. Three days a week I accompany my n.mom to a lake near our house. We have to go in the car, but then I get to chase ducks, view wildlife and meet other dogs. It is about 3 miles around and she says I am slowing her down, but she doesn't complain too much.

If we stay home, I take her on a walk around the neighborhood that ranges from .5 miles to a mile, depending. I like to see what is blooming and see what my cat enemies are up to. I know lots of people and their dogs, so it is a nice walk.

After any walk, there is food.

I like most food, but all kibble tastes better with cottage cheese or some kind of amendment.

After that, there is squeaking, running around and then maybe a nap.

Usually, I have to get dressed (harness) and then we go to work.

Oh, don't worry, I don't have to use computers or attending boring meetings, I sit in the car and take a nap.

Yes, I am in a crate, but I am happy and so are they. Right now, it is still cool.

They check on me at 10:30 and then at lunch I get to go for a walk, my choice varies. I like to see different things, buoys, weather stations, the wetlands or the next door dog park. If I don't like the fact that they are taking me back to the car, I work on my flat basset.

There are lots of lawns at work, they are good for naps.

Then back in the car after some water and a snack.

Sometimes, they take me for a walk after work, if not I go home and make them take me again.

I average between 3 to 5 miles a day.

Dinner is a nice time for me to think about how to drive them crazy.

They try and eat and then I convince them that I need to go out. I have them trained to go out at my will.

We go at least one more time, usually to make sure all cats are inside. I spend the time between walks trying to lean into TH mom's lap or work on my vulture basset.

I usually start conking out at 9 pm. I get a bit crabby and start digging in the couch.

I can be coaxed into my crate for a bisquit, but usually after they battle with me to clean my teeth.

The next day it starts again.

I am tired just thinking about it!

Handsome lad, Ernest, Easter 2007, Seattle, WA.

I am very tired. I have had a very busy basset day keeping track of my people and their guests -- all 20 of them.

I will update later. Currently, n.mom has arranged to sleep with me and provide comfort as I am suffering from pano again!

The better half, Ernest the puppy, April 2007.

I turned thirteen months today, so did Phracey!

They left me at home twice today by my lonesome.

This required bravery on my part.

I am tired from keeping a watch out for my people to return from wherever they went.

They are considering the purchase of a Ernest only chair so that I may keep a vigil more comfortably. I say, do it, and not let price be a barrier.

They told me to hold my horses, I have no idea how I would do that, but it sounds hard.

Ernest who is now recovering from having to stand in a chair for two hours.

Today I worked on my flat basset. It was hot and I did not want to go back to the car. It was fabulous. I did it in the middle of the parking lot. My peeps were not impressed.

I will post a video of my flat basseting once n.mom figures out how to take a video with her phone.

Today I found out what a lurcher is. For some reason, I thought it had to do with the humans lurching around sort of like Lurch. You know what I mean?

I am impressed. They are so cool and suave and beautiful.

I could have one of my own and with some collaboration, we could get most anything off the table.

I need to find a local lurcher.

I'm back!

I had many different roommates - a cairn terrier, two beagles, a dalmatian, a cocker spaniel and a yellow lab! I had fun.

Apparently no one would room with the cairn terrier, but she got along with me. It must be my boyish good looks and my ability to woo my constituents.

I'm on the back of the couch now. N.mom has not removed the stupid bandana they tied on my after my bath. It must be removed before my next walk. I do not wish to be laughed at.

Yours in freedom,

Ernest
