A blog by a basset hound named Ernest puppy who is making the lives of two people in Seattle very happy and one day hopes to run for public office.

Have you met my little bruddar? He comes from another mother, but we look a lot like our pops.
Even as a puppy he was bossy.
I am with him and Phracey and other assorted relations in the 509. So far we have broken the washing machine, harassed sheep!, turned up the AC and caused general mayhem. I love being here.

I am in the 509 with my sissy and other sorted relations.
On the way I visited the Yakima Farmer's Market to fulfill someone's wish.
Where I stopped and was petted every fifteen feet. Good thing I am so patient. I was also HOT.
I grumbled the whole way there because the moms DROVE TOO FAST. I am going to lead up a commission when the new governor is elected to determine if the 70 mph speed limit should be reduced to 40 mph when there is a basset in the car.
ernest basset at your service.

Hola.
This is so cool! I want to meet this fellow. My moms met this fellow. He is really tall.
I have always had a soft spot for long legged dogs....
I am getting ready to see my sissy! I am getting bathed and primped tomorrow in order to be as handsome as she is beautiful.
I cannot wait to see Phracey, Look at you and the Noble Spot. I promised the moms I would behave while I am in the 509. We'll see how that goes.

I feel fall coming on.
It makes hounds sleepy.
I wonder if they grew me a pumpkin....
Soon I'll get to see my sissy!

Oh Hai!
Someone went to Paris and I was left to my own devices.
My ears grew bigger and Charlie is still in the way.
However, he is still my best friend and I am still not admitting to actually liking Annie.
Things have been really slow around here. N mom promises to blog every day during the month of September to keep to a SCHEDULE and to show off her mad instagramming skills. Here's a SCHEDULE to follow - sleep, wake up, feed Ernest, walk Ernest, play squeaky with Ernest, leave Ernest alone to nap, wake up Ernest for lunchtime walk, feed Ernest sandwich crusts, leave Ernest alone for nap, take Ernest for pre-dinner walk, make Ernest dinner, barely eat your own dinner before Ernest starts groaning for walk, walk Ernest again with Charlie, play squeaky with Ernest, undress Ernest and put him to bed. Easy peasy. I don't know why this is so hard to stick to, it seems so logical to me.
A 6' Ball Yellow Bellied Python is loose in Cowen Park. I love to go this park on warm days with my Uncle Dale. The fact the python escaped on his own walk right before my walk was to commence was inconsiderate and poorly timed. Are there not leash laws for snakes? I have to wear one. My walker also gets the pleasure of cleaning up my poops. Do snakes poop? If a snake poops in the woods does anyone hear it?
Can you believe this photo? Now everyone is going to want one of their own!
Ironically the snake's name is Timid and he is one scary looking dude. He was seen entering Cowen park and headed towards the kid's play area. I hope he doesn't make it all the way into Ravenna Park where I like to sniff around the brush. I wish Charlie was here to howl and scare the snake. Annie would just stare the snake down and then she could get the python skin made into a fancy handbag. Python is hot this season as is yellow!
I would walk away from the snake because I am not a fool. Antoine St. Exupery's Petit Prince has me a bit concerned because if a snake can swallow an elephant, he can swallow a basset!

We'll be staying on the pavement for the next few days and monitor the Twitter feed of this now notorious yellow bellied serpent.

As promised, n mom has learned great things from me.
It was hot this weekend. I thought about ways to keep cool. Kongie yoga was one option. As was laying on the wool carpet or in the sun because I like to do the opposite of the obvious.
Charlie spent a lot of the weekend with me! We did nothing of note because it was so hot. I did push him out of many sun patches and sweltering places in order to nap.
How do you keep cool?
ernest cool cat.

Charlie is staying with me this weekend! Party down! We are hot and miserable as we do not have any modern conveniences such as air conditioning. I may go sleep at grandmere and grandpere's house tomorrow. At least the floor is cool here and the ice cube tray is full.
Over and out, Ernest and Charlie the hot dogs

I miss my pack.

It is hot again. I am not amused and neither is owl. My mom thinks that my approach to life parallels her current job search. Our next few blog posts will discuss my zen habits and how it is helping her find a job. It is true, I am a zen master when I am not dragging or being dragged on a walk.

This weekend was all about getting down to business.
Charlie is the brains behind the operation. I am the brawn and look great on camera.
Unless, of course, I am resting.

Tonight, my water bowl was invaded by CATS.
Later I was tortured while eating pasta.
I get very little respect from the lesser apes.

I spent the weekend doing a lot of this.
I am going to spend the week doing a lot of this when the provide me a boost. I miss my bench. Good thing I am so cute.

Welcome to my reality and bunker for the foreseeable future...
THE HEXAGON.
You have to have pass six levels of security clearance to gain access, or be Annie.
I have another secret fortress, near the stairs at Casa Beagle with an ocean view. Like my other fortress, you have to possess a high security clearance to enter, unless you are Annie.
She rules the roost.

No, this does not sound like me at all. I believe in the separation on naps and play, as much as I believe that people should be able to read in peace. Basically, NO WAY JOSE.
If I am upright and engaged, I expect you to do the same.
On a more serious note...
Who invited Annie to stay for the day?

I am at Casa Beagle. Please hold my calls.

Happy Fourth of July from Ernest Basset who is no longer a puppy in the eyes of the court, but is a puppy at heart.
I am currently still under house and kennel arrest.
This means a lot of things.
I am banished from all furniture climbing or sitting for the foreseeable future.
So are my apes!
I am relegated to the floor and beds that are too small for me.
Please send help or buy me a bigger bed. (Note: E has a million beds, he just chooses to look pathetic in this tiny one, Ed. )
I am going to see my neurologist tomorrow. I hope she says I am fit for travel. Charlie is taking my favorite sleeping spots at Casa Beagle and I need to reclaim them toute de suite.

This blog has not been updated for a few weeks. Why? Apes have been busy doing THINGS that purportedly take precedence over my communication outreach. (Note to ape in career transition: my blog presence may be the reason you land an awesome job, love, E. )
Well, to tell you the truth, the last two weeks around here have centered around ME! Unfortunately, not in a very uplifting and positive way. I have hurt my back, badly. I ruptured a disc and hurt a nerve, and was very uncomfortable and scared the moms very much. I am lucky because I could still walk, sit, pee and stand on my own. I have had x-rays and a MRI and now my own neurologist. She loves me and was very impressed by my demeanor and general handsomeness. However, she is strict and told the moms that I had to be on kennel rest, with a few short walks a day, no running, no t-boning at the park and no jumping on anything. If I am careful and calm, I will be better without any surgery.
I am not allowed to do stairs for a while. Tmom figured out a route that would let me visit Casa Beagle without any stairs! We dined al fresco! I stayed in my kennel while being tormented by Annie. Its not perfect, but it is better than staring at my the walls of my x-pen all day.
The neurologist stated there would be no percussive motion for a long time. Does this mean no drum playing? How about the cymbals?
Fine.
I will continue looking sad and dismissive until I get drumming lessons.
Ernest who knows why the caged basset howls.

I won this round of basset v. ball.
Happy Friday.
